So What Are Backlinks?
If you want to get fancy, "hyperlinks" (backlinks) are links on a web page that you click to go from one page on the web to another.
Backlinks are also a "vote of confidence" that search engines use to determine your sites popularity and importance and ultimately how high the search engine rankings your site gets.
It is 2008, your site has to have back links to rank high in the search engines.

I'm not going to name names or anything like that. But I will tell you what sparked this discovery.
It all started innocently enough ... some of my online friends were discussing a new software that was working wonders on getting web sites indexed and ranked in the search engines.
About half the time the discussion revolved about how great this software was, the other half was about how "clunky" and awkward the software was to setup. How people were frustrated and just wanted something that would help them without needing to jump though hoops.
I'll admit, I'm always interested in software that helps my business. So...
I clicked on over to the sales leter, read it and said...
"Is that it?"
This software, with a high price tag, did one thing well, very well. But getting it to the point of doing that one thing was a challenge. Maybe that's an understatement, it was like pulling teeth in the dentist.
After listening to the complaints and checking out the service provided I decided to do something about it... build a better version. Now normally I wouldn't do that, but because of all the complaints and the high price tag I just couldn't let people get 'ripped off'...
So That's What I Did...
Straight away, purely by word of mouth I instantly started getting sales and sales were good. No complaints from me. I even had a "free" version of the software. That free version did one thing that helped boost my search engine rankings to the very top and that's how I found my coveted technique that works like gang busters.
In hindsight, I probably made more by giving away the software than actually selling it. Those top search engine rankings have paid off handsomely.
